Proprioception
Proprioception, sometimes called “the sixth sense,” registers the position of the body (limbs, head, and trunk) in space (relative to the surrounding environment). The brain constantly receives updates from sensors, often called proprioceptors, located in muscles, joints, tendons, and ligaments.
It is body awareness, so we improve awareness in coordination, balance, concentration and muscle memory.
Many dogs are not aware of their hind legs. They can even be very sensitive to handling in this area. Feeling insecure if they notice that something touches this part.
Proprioception is something beneficial for both dogs and humans.
By overcoming small challenges they develop greater confidence in themselves and in their environment.
